This act permits the operations of slot machines in Pennsylvania. By August 2009 there are 8 casinos built out of the 14 of them that planed to be built. The eight casinos have been operating for about 3 years since the opening. The impact on Pennsylvanians seems more positive than most of us had previously anticipated, $3.6 billion revenue shared by the commonwealth and casino operators. Pennsylvanians are benefitted by the $1.7 billion going towards property tax relief and the creation of 16,000 jobs. The casino taxes help fund the new arena in Pittsburgh that help keep the Stanley Cup winners the Penguins from leaving. Now the casinos desire to put table gaming, which would generate more revues if approved. The table gambling would boost revenue by 30 percent and create more job opportunities. The gambling industry wants to expand their casino business. By introducing and operating table games in the casinos in Pennsylvania, it would generate more income than having to building other slot machines casinos elsewhere. Pennsylvania has a $3.2 billion budget gap and the casinos are here to stay, so we should use them to their fullest and allow them to operate table gambling.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"13464827","dateCreated":"1249569052","smartDate":"Aug 6, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"zitong66","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/zitong66","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1247335343\/zitong66-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/gpezzabucks.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/13464827"},"dateDigested":1532092903,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"State Legislatures","description":"State Legislatures

Surprisingly, which state has the largest legislature?
\nThe New Hampshire Legislature includes 24 Senators and 400 state Representatives, for a total of 424.
\n
\n2. What does Bicameral mean?
\nA bicameral legislature has two chambers or legislative houses. Pennsylvania has had a bicameral legislature, consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives, since 1790. Prior to that date, Pennsylvania had a unicameral legislature with only the House of Representatives.
\n
\n3. What does Unicameral mean?
\nThe word "cameral" comes from the Latin camera and the Greek kameral, both meaning "chamber." Therefore, a unicameral legislature consists of only one chamber or legislative house.
\n
\n4. How many Bicameral State Legislatures are there?
\nAll but one state is bicameral. The only unicameral state is Nebraska.
\n
\n5. How many members are there in the State Legislature?
\nThere are 253-50 Senators and 203 members of the House of Representatives.
\n
\n6. Can a woman who is 24 years old be a State Senator in PA? Explain.
\nAccording to Article II, Senators must be at least 25 years old, so no.
\n
\n7. Explain what the President Pro Tempor is.
\nThe Lieutenant Governor is President of the Senate by authority of the Constitution (see Article IV, Section 4). The Senate elects from its members a President Pro Tempore to preside in the absence of the President. When this happens, the Majority Leader is vested with all the powers of the President (except as specifically prohibited by the Constitution or laws). This authority, however, does not extend beyond the day's adjournment.
\n
\n8. What is a Standing Committee?
\nStanding committees are permanent legislative panels established by the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate rules. Standing committees, as permanent units of the General Assembly, serve as the workshops of the Legislature. It is their duty to carefully study all bills referred to them and to prepare bills to be reported with a favorable recommendation to each house.
\n
\nThey have legislative jurisdiction, so they consider bills and issues and recommend measures for consideration by their respective chambers. They also have oversight responsibility to monitor agencies, programs, and activities within their jurisdictions, and in some cases in areas that cut across committee jurisdictions. Due to their permanent nature, these committees exist beyond the adjournment of each two year meeting of Congress.
\n
\n9. What is a Select Committee?
\nA select or special committee of the United States Congress is a congressional committee appointed to perform a special function that is beyond the authority or capacity of a standing committee. A select committee is established by the Senate or the House for a special purpose and for a limited time. When the select committee's function has been carried out and a report made, it is automatically dissolved.
\n
\n10. What is a Conference Committee?
\nA conference committee is a committee of the Congress appointed by the House of Representatives and Senate to resolve disagreements on a particular bill. The conference committee is usually composed of the senior Members of the standing committees of each House that originally considered the legislation. Differences of opinion over legislation between the two houses of the General Assembly are committed to conference committees for settlement. This usually happens when a bill passes one house with amendments that are unacceptable to the other house.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"13460221","dateCreated":"1249531895","smartDate":"Aug 5, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"stevelewonski","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/stevelewonski","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/gpezzabucks.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/13460221"},"dateDigested":1532092903,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"legilature assignment","description":"Which state has the largest legislature?
